Imagining the Second Life of Plastics – Upcycling for a Greener Future
The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research invites potential commercial partners to submit expressions of interest to commercialise CSIR-developed polymer technology for injection-moulded consumer products made from used polyolefin-based materials.

- Companies active in polymer recycling or the manufacture of value-added products such as plastic furniture.
- Companies that can recycle or pelletise used plastics.
- Businesses with established manufacturing facilities.
- Businesses with a reliable supply chain for consistent batches of waste plastics, such as soft-drink bottle caps.
- Applicants with relevant market information and commercialisation strategies.
- Applicants able to invest or secure funding from public or private sources.
What to submit
- A brief description of the company’s core business.
- A response explaining how the company meets each eligibility requirement.
Required supporting documents
- Company registration documents.
- Audited or independently reviewed financial statements.
- A valid tax-clearance certificate for South African companies.
- A valid Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment certificate.
- An overview of the key team members who will drive commercialisation.
